Introduction
I started my accounting career shortly after I graduated from Butler County Community college in May of 2001. I was employed at Family Consultation Service in Wichita Kansas. I started my career with this company has a receptionist but it was not long before I moved into the role of an accounts receivable clerk. This is when it all started to come to me and what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. From this point on I have had no other jobs but those that had to deal with some kind of accounting.
In October of 2007 my husband and I moved our family to Topeka Kansas. He is a member of the Kansas Air National Guard and since his job moved to Topeka we followed. During this process it really helped me decide that I wanted to be in a profession that would allow me to move should we need to. It is very important for me to be able to work and help provide for my family and if I were in a profession that would not allow me to move this would be very difficult for me. I finished my Bachelors degree in Accounting and Human Resource Management through Southwestern college in May of 2010. Once I had completed this step in life I felt it was very important for me to continue my education and get my Masters. I knew that if I did not go straight into my masters then I would probably not go back to school. They say it is very hard if you take a break to go back and finish at a later date.
Moving to a new city and trying to find a new job is no easy task. I did have to take a few jobs that did involve very little accounting and I can tell you those were some of the worst jobs I have ever had. I was finally hired as an accounts receivable clerk with Family Service & Guidance Center in Topeka, Kansas. I started there in October of 2008. I loved this job because it allowed me to learn new things and really put some of my education to work. But it was a small company and I knew there was no room for growth so it was time for me to get out there and look for the one job that would allow me to use my full potential and grow with the company. In December of 2011 I was hired on as an accounting clerk with Mize, Houser & Company P.A. I was so excited because I was finally with an accounting firm. It was not to long into my time here that I was promoted into the role of a staff accountant and was given more responsibilities. I am learning so many new things with this company and I am able to use all of my education, which is what I was looking for in a job. I did not want another dead end job were I would be stuck in one position for the rest of my life. I have been with Mize Houser & Company P.A. for about a year now and absolutely love the company and my position. I am constantly learning new things every day and my mind is being challenged at the same time. I am truly blessed to be where I am because it has shown me that this profession was the right decision for me and it proves to me that I am in the right career. I plan on taking the CPA exam when I am finished with my Masters degree and my current company is there and willing to help me get through this part of life. I could not ask for a better company to work for!
